In 410 A.D., the Roman governor of Britain, Constantine III rebelled against the Empire. Gathering his forces he invaded the European mainland and marched on Rome. He failed, but with the light of the Empire failing, the powers of Rome never again ruled over Britain.
Left behind was a mixed people from around the old empire. No longer Romans, they were faced with the task of establishing a new kingdom for an independent land. They chose a king. He was Vortigern, and the choices he made would set the course of British history for centuries.
